Abstract

Optical activity of a helical polymer, poly-L-lactic acid, was studied by using x-rays and HAUP methods. Gyrations depend considerably on the drawing actions. From the relation between gyrations and drawing ratios, the gyration tensor components are determined as gi=(-2.7±0.5)xl0-4and g3=(8.3+0.2) x10-2. It is striking that a helical polymer like this material produces huge gyration along the helical chain.
