Abstract
In this paper, we have described a dynamic displacement meter that is capable of simultaneous contactless measurement of the displacement of an object in three dimensions using a single laser beam, by splitting the reflected laser beam. We have confirmed the effectiveness of the meter for measuring the dynamic displacement of a typewriter hammer at impact, for measuring the vibrations of car engines, car bodies, and exhaust pipes, and for measuring the transfer function of robot arms. In the future, it is likely to find application in oscillation/vibration analysis and in distortion/warp and speed measurement for mechanical structures, machines, and high-precision equipment.
