Abstract

This paper presents an optimal allocation approach of Static Var Compensators (SVCs) in case of wind power generators are operating in distribution networks. In the proposed method, the fluctuation of wind is approximated by Weibull distribution. We decide the location of SVC, considering the probable characteristics of wind power output. The allocation of SVC is determined by taking account of probabilistic character of wind power output. Monte Carlo Simulations are applied to obtain optimal solutions to SVC allocation problem. In addition, Reactive Tabu Search (RTS) which is composed of twostep procedures is applied. The proposed method can deal with installation costs of SVC, the limitation of voltage and limitation of line currents as constraints. The proposed method is applied to a radial distribution network to test the performance.
