Abstract

TEPCO and Hitachi started joint research and development of a sodium-sulfur battery for the load leveling application in 1983. 80 Wh cells for basic research have been designed and manufactured, and satisfactory performances of the cell have been accomplished under the support of mathematical modelings and technological developments. Principal items of the advancement in the past four years are discussed.
