Abstract
This study focuses on two methodologies for construction planning and representations. It describes the planning methods of the down-from-the-top system and the up-from-the-bottom system, discussing that the former system is more suitable for construction planning than the latter system. The study first identifies the requirements for adopting the breakdown structures in planning the construction process. It then discusses how the methodologies make breakdown structures from several viewpoints and maintain consistencies in breakdown structures which represent the construction plan. The author concludes that the two methodologies should play an important role in expert systems to aid a manager to make a construction plan.
