Abstract

Nanometer-size particles of iron oxide were prepared by a successive reduction-oxidation of ferric or ferrous ions within reverse micelles. Nanoparticles of iron oxide were collected from reverse micellar solution as precipitates by adding modifier molecules. The X-ray diffraction patterns and magnetic properties of thus-prepared samples suggested the formation of nanocrystalline phase of maghemite, γ-Fe2O3.
