Abstract
Fungal protoplasts have been used as genetic tools for protoplast fusion and transformation, cell wall synthesis and enzyme localization. Protoplast formation from the mycelium of Aspergillus niger was examined with the combined use of Zymolyase, chitinase and hemicellulase or Novozym 234. Sufficient numbers of protoplasts (1. 2-5. 2 multiplied by 10**6/ml) could be obtained with the strains tested under 120 min incubation.
