Abstract

A technique is proposed for recovering the correct position of an edge on a polyhedron from its approximate location. We have already shown a method of reconstructing an edge on a polyhedron from its projection. Since the method assumes an orthographic projection which is not the case with a practical vision system, it gives only an approximate position of the edge. The present technique recovers its exact position by employing an optimization method. The Davidon-Fletcher-Powell method is employed for the optimization. Performance of the proposed recovery technique is examined by some numerical experiments which show rapid convergence of the optimization process. A result of the recovery technique applied to an actual video image is also given.
