Abstract

Regeneration of the mycelial protoplasts of Aspergillus niger was studied. In liquid hypertonic media, at least two types of regeneration were observed. In the first, the protoplasts formed a short chain of yeast-like bodies and eventually the terminal body produced a hypha. In the second, direct formation of germ-tubes from protoplasts was observed. After 16 h incubation, approximately 50% of the protoplasts regenerated. On solid hypertonic media, approximately 10% of the protoplasts regenerated after 72 h incubation.
