Research on household energy consumption and database development in Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia (Part 1): The development of a household energy consumption database in southeast Asia

Abstract

The goal of this study was to a create household energy use and lifestyle database for Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia. A questionnaire was used in a survey of 1642 households. The annual secondary energy consumption per household was 16.2 GJ (Bangkok), 18.2 GJ (Hanoi), 18.8 GJ (Ho Chi Minh City), and 13.2 GJ (Phnom Penh). The electricity consumption in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi was 17.0 GJ and 15.9 GJ, respectively. In Cambodia, the use of firewood and charcoal was high, and the CO2 emission level of Phnom Penh households was 52.8% smaller than that of Bangkok households.
