Abstract

The National Institute of information and Communications Technology (NICT) has been continuing a range of R&D activities to ensure a secure environment for information and communications infrastructures. The Communications Research Laboratory (CRL) recognized the importance of information security and initiated a special project to pursue independent R&D from 2001 to 2003. CRL established the Information Security Center to address to the issue of ensuring communications in the event of emergency and confirming the safety of the residents in the disaster area. Telecommunications Advancement Organization of Japan is also providing state level support for the research on Internet security.
