Abstract

First simultaneous measurements of the electrogyration and electrooptic coefficients of a-quartz were made by using HAUP method, where no experimental limitations and assumptions were introduced. As examples of the results, electrogyration coefficients |u11| and |u41| (linear), and |v41|( (quadratic), and electrooptic coefficients |r11| and |r11| at 18°C are given as |u11| - 1.41 ± 0.01 x 10-12m/v, |r41| = 1.44 ± 0.01 X 10-12m/v, and |v11| = 4.23 ± 0.01 x 10-18 m2/v2; |r11| =4.9 ± 0.1 X 10-13 m/v, and |r41| = 2.35 ± 0.01 x 10-13 m/v, where ʎ = 632.8 nm. Our results of electrooptic coefficients agree with previous reports. |u41| approximately coincides with that measured by Rogers, but |u11| two orders of magnitude less than his result.
