Abstract
This paper describes studies on variations of acoustic characteristics of voiceless plosives in the acoustic-phonetic segment representation. The variations were studied in some phonetic environments within mono-syllables, VCVVCV sequences and Japanese city names. Mono-syllables, VCVVCVs and city names were labeled using acoustic-phonetic segments. Durations, spectrum slopes and local peak movements of the voiceless plosives were studied. Some features of voiceless plosives, that is, burst spectrum shapes and formant patterns, were confirmed.
