Abstract
Multimedia signal processing by software can be executed in realtime on the latest high-performance personal computers. Moreover, storage, processing, and communication of speech will be handled easily using personal computers connected to networks, such as the Internet. This paper describes NTT's speech Codec software "DualSpeech" for multimedia services and its application systems. DualSpeech has three advantages: (1)low bit-rate, (2)low arithmetic complexity, and (3)high quality of speech. With conventional technology, these three advantages were incompatible. "DualSpeech" software demonstrates high performance in Internet speech casting, voice mail, Internet tele-conference, and digital simultaneous voice and data systems.
