Abstract
The stability of an openhole completion in a limestone reservoir was investigated. The stability of the borehole after acid treatment was also studied. The stability study was conducted by simulating a horizontal well with three different principal in-situ stresses. It was found that boreholes in a limestone induce a shear failure at the borehole surface after a pore collapse is induced. Because of this highly ductile shear failure, a horizontal well is stable even though the ratio of effective horizontal and vertical stress is high. It was also observed that an openhole remains stable even after acidization.
