Abstract

The entry flow in a curved tube has been generated much interests for the physiological fluid mechanics as well as the engineering applications and it has been relevant for the understanding of blood flow in the arterial system such as the aortic arch and the internal carotid artery. In the present study the distribution of shear rate and velocity profile in the developing flow of the strongly curved tube from the parabolic entry profile were investigated experimentally in order to see the effect of large curvature and the maximum curvature ratio employed in this study was 1/2 . The measurements of shear rate and velocity profiles were made by the electrochemical limited current method and laser Doppler velocimeter respectively.
