Abstract

Strong self-phase modulation in photodarkened, planar chalcogenide glass waveguides was reported. The fabrication of planar waveguides was done from chalcogenide glass compounds with large Kerr nonlinearities. Strong self-phase modulation of subpicosecond pulses with low nonlinear and linear absorption losses demonstrated the used for low-power, ultrafast, all-optical processing applications.
