Abstract

We fabricated 2×2 InAlGaAs/InAlAs Mach-Zehnder-type optical switches (MZ-OS) by employing the sophisticated fabrication process to control the structural parameters as much as possible. Low crosstalk and polarization-independent operation was confirmed, and at the same time it was also noticed that the switching characteristics are dependent on the structural parameters. Their tolerances are discussed.
