Abstract

In the present study x-ray diffraction experiments and channeling experiments have been performed on NbC thin films and single crystals, respectively, in order to investigate the effects of structural disorder induced by He ions (200 kev) and Ar ions (600 kev). X-ray diffraction experiments give structural information such as the lattice parameter a//0, static displacements of lattice atoms, and the variation of the concentration of lattice atoms contributing to crystalline diffraction. The present work serves as a comprehensive description of the nature of the structural disorder and its influence on the T//c of ion-irradiated NbC thin films and single-crystal surfaces.
