    Abstract

Surface states of LaB6(001) have been revealed by angular-resolved ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy. An approximate electron angular distribution and energy-band structure of the surface states have been determined. A possible model of the LaB6(001) surface which is consistent with the experimental results is given. It is pointed out that the origin of the low work function of LaB6 is probably electric dipole moments produced by surface lanthanum ions.
