Abstract
In order to further increase the active site of oxygen reduction, polymerizable ligand with a strong coordinating ability was synthesized. The compound is a pyrrole derivative that strongly coordinates to cobalt(II) ions. It was revealed that the metal complex could be used as the cathode catalyst in fuel cells. The potential for oxygen reduction was very positive (Ep = 0.41 V vs SCE) for the catalyst prepared by refluxing the corresponding compound, cobalt acetate, and the carbon particles.
