Abstract
Since the multicast connection form is clearly different from the point-to-point one, the optimal network topology will also be different if many multicast services are provided. The Delta-Star topology has been proposed as an effective topology for a point-to-point network when reliability is a consideration. It may also be effective for multicast networks, since it is a combined form of the Ring topology, suitable for multicast connections, and the Star topology, suitable for point-to-point connections. In this paper, network construction cost is examined by applying each of the following topologies: Star, Ring, Multi-Ring, and Delta-Star. The results show that the Delta-Star topology is the most suitable for multicast networks in many cases.
