    Abstract

The increasing use of thin-walled curved and twisted beams has created a need for a simple but thorough analysis of stresses as well as displacement in tortuous members. The difficulties encountered have raised the question of practicability of the space frame analysis for the analysis of a spatially curved beam. Little work has been done to verify the applicability of the space frame analysis to spatially curved beams. In this paper, an attempt is made to examine the validity of an analysis of thin-walled spatially curved beams approximated by an assemblage of straight beams.
