Abstract
Water-soluble PPE derivatives provided by oxidative polymerization of phenols are applicable as reusable paper-binder materials. Water-soluble PPE derivatives were evaluated as functional coating materials for paper product. High glass transition temperature of them provided stiffness and strong resistance against heat blocking of sheet media when a thin layer of them was applied to a surface of a paper sheet. It was revealed that introduction of carboxylic acid group was effective. Possibility of the use of polymer-complex was also investigated.
