Abstract

We have demonstrated wideband frequency-tunable ultrashort pulse generation using a Mach-Zehnder-modulator-based flat comb generator (MZ-FCG) and a dispersion-flattened dispersion-decreasing fiber. Continuous wave lights were converted to ultraflat comb signals by the MZ-FCG. The comb signals were formed into picosecond pulse trains by chirp compensation, and they are compressed into femtosecond ones by a soliton compression technique. Pulse trains of 200 fs width were successfully generated in a repetition rate range of 5-17 GHz. Our pulse source is very simple configuration and possesses high stability and low timing jitter.
