Abstract
Oxygen X-ray absorption near edge (XANES) spectra obtained from α-Al2O3, Cr2O3 and α-Fe2O3 were found to be clearly distinguishable. The energy distributions of the XANES spectra were reproduced here fairly well by the DV-Xα molecular orbital calculation. On the other hand, O Kα spectra emitted from these oxides showed no significant difference. This indicates that the XANES is a very promising candidate to study the chemical environment of anions in typical ionic compounds.
