We conducted a questionnaire survey to examine differences in intellectual productivity based on office design preferences. An online survey was conducted in March 2019 and responses were received from 2,684 office workers in Japan. Using a five-point rating scale, the questions assessed participants’ satisfaction with the current office environment. A model on “environment–intellectual productivity” was developed using structural equation modeling. A multi-group analysis utilizing typified design preferences (T4_1–T4_4) was also performed to compare the effects of different preferences on intellectual productivity through each quantized path coefficients. The results showed heterogeneity among the four models of design preference types.
