Digital TV (DTV) has evolved, along with developments in communications technology, as a media form that is capable of providing various services and information. To contribute to the research on the manipulation of DTV interfaces by remote control, in the present study, we evaluate the pointing tasks and the different types of interactions between remote pointing devices and moving targets. The evaluation index includes the execution time, accuracy, subjective satisfaction, and an analysis of user experience, as noted in ISO 9241-9. The results indicate that the GyroPoint type device shows superior performance to the Hall Mouse and the OFN in terms of both execution time and accuracy. For other elements, such as subjective satisfaction and user behavior, each pointing device has unique pros and cons. Unlike previous evaluations for fixed targets on the "Simple and Multi-direction Task," or the "Steering Tunnel Task," this research was conducted on moving targets so that it was possible to evaluate the performance and inspect usability, considering various aspects of remote control usage. Above all, the current research is significant in enabling the proposal of new evaluation standards to develop appropriate remote controls for the evolving circumstances of DTV.
