Bath compositions and conditions for autocatalytic (electroless) nickel-tungsten-phosphorous alloy plating were investigated with changing sodium citrate and sodium tungstate concentrations. The co-deposition of 3 approximately 4 weight percent tungsten with nickel reduced the phosphorus content in deposits from 8. 9 to 2. 3 weight percent, consequently improving the crystallinity of as-plated deposits. Residual stress and specific conductance of as-plated deposits were increased by this lower phosphorus content.
