The main object of this development is CAD/CAM integration for printed circuit board (PCB) assembly to minimize manpower and time of NC data preparation for insertion machines. Functions of the PCB assembly process planning are automatic process assignment and insertion sequence determination with the features: collision checking based on the shape model of parts and insertion head, selection of uninsertable parts to maximize automatic insertion ratio, and determination of insertion order to minimize insertion operation time. This system has shown the significant effects (e.g., reduction of NC data preparation time) through implementations at several factories.
