Virtual Cellular Manufacturing system (VCMs) is investigated as an alternative approach to implement cellular manufacturing system, which featured in form cells temporary and logical. The configuration of virtual cells is a complex and time consuming NP-hard problem. This paper aims to design an effective methodology to form novel virtual cells and operation take care of allocation of shared machines and batch size of parts. A genetic algorithm is developed in two steps to find a shared machine location and optimal batch size of cell configuration that the whole manufacturing system has minimized total make span. The proposed method was implemented on a case study dataset to examine its feasibility and efficiency by comparing its performance to Cellular Manufacturing system (CMs) and conventional VCMs configuration method.
