N2 - A technique was developed which facilitates the use of the optimal orthogonal transform technique for the data compression of ECG signals, even with an arrhythmic ECG. In computer software, the arrhythmia is detected and an accurate waveform is transmitted until the periodic normal ECG waveform is detected and the data compression is resumed. In the process of data compression, this technique eliminates baseline-drift and high-frequency noise which are commonly found in a telemetered ECG. Using this method, the compression rate of 1/7 was achieved with non-arrhythmic data, and an accurate waveform of arrhthmia was reconstructed after the data-compressed transmission.
