A 30m prototype of 100MVA(66kV- 1kA) high temperature superconducting (HTSC) power cable system was developed for the first time ever. This system consists of a 30m long single phase cable (made with our cable manufacturing machines with some additional improvements), terminations, a 66kV XLPE cable for a current loop, and a closed cycle liquid nitrogen cooling system. After being cooled down, 40kV-1kA ac was successfully applied in sub-cooled liquid nitrogen (72K, 1.2kg/cm2abs) regardless of mechanical stress, such as handling in the factory, transportation, laying, and the axial force due to contraction during cooling down.
