A temperature of 400C is sufficient to induce a partial (or total) degradation of metal free, cobalt and a mu -oxo form of iron tetramethoxyphenyl porphyrins dispersed on high area carbons. This conclusion was drawn on the basis of slow pyrolysis - mass spectrometry (SP-MS) experiments performed under conditions very similar to those employed in the preparation of highly catalytic materials used in gas-fed O//2 cathodes of the fuel cell type. This work will present SP-MS and differential gravimetry results for these ultra purified materials both in bulk form and supported on high area Vulcan XC-72 carbon.
