The influence of initial pulse overlapping conditions on the transmission performance in soliton wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission scheme was investigated using periodic dispersion and dispersion slope compensation. The effect of the initial pulse overlap on the transmission performance was small in the 2-channel 20 Gbit/s soliton WDM system. A transmission over 10000 km was possible regardless of the initial pulse overlap conditions indicating the applicability of the optical add-drop multiplexing to soliton WDM systems.
