An Electric-pulse-induced (EPI) nonvolatile, reversible change of infrared reflectance from the thin film of perovskite manganite was discussed. It was shown that the EPI phenomena arise from the change of the bulk properties of perovskite manganite. It was suggested that the electrodes made of different metals cause different types of carrier injection into the film by positive and negative pulses, and induces the nonvolatile change in the electronic structure. This type of nonvolatile change of reflectance with electric pulses was suggested to have the potential to be used as an optical switch or filter, as well as optical memory.
