Our project investigates how a multilateral distance class can be facilitated between China, Korea and Japan through the use of interactive communication tools, including a high-quality video conferencing system, a text-based discussion system, and a network-based display-sharing system. The main objectives of our project are to implement high-quality, high-fidelity environments over long-distance broadband networks, and to provide students of EFL (English as a Foreign Language) in Asia with better chances for international understanding using a common language. With regard to the platforms for collaborative learning, Chat'n'Debate and Multi-Culture Box were created and used over the Japan Gigabit Network as well as the Internet. Results are reported based on the Principal Component Analysis of a questionnaire given to the participants in these three countries.
