Field surveys on residences A-1 and A-2 of the restored traditional masonry dwelling "masia" in Catalonia, Spain were conducted during autumn and winter of 2008. The residence A-1 had been restored by inserting steel frame inside and outside of the existing masonry walls, and A-2 had been restored by the original work method. In order to investigate the influence of their architectural characteristics on thermal environment, measurement results were compared. In addition, lifestyle which effects on thermal environment in masia was proposed through these surveys. As a result, the indoor thermal environment of masia could be comfortable all year around considering that the occupants made use of huge heat capacity and small openings of masia in their lifestyle.
