Field measurement was performed in a new office building of the N Company; the construction of this building was completed in 2007. The building has seven stories aboveand one story underground and a penthouse. The office was designed to be a creative workplace, which promotes communication between workers and encourages their creativity. A stepped space known as "step workplace" is one of the creative spaces. It has a large open space and small green courtyards known as "green cubes" on every floor. Light and thermal environments changed by opening the blinds in the step workplace, which is one of the creative spaces. Desktop illuminance was greater than 800 lx at most points when the roller blinds were open. Result showed not only the work space but also other spaces such as the step workplace were found to affect the performance of the workers.
