The diameter of a bolt-hole is usually made 1 mm bigger than that of a bolt itself. Hence an external force is mainly transmitted to the region in which the compressive normal stresses occur. By pouring some epoxy into a bolt joint, the bolt is expected to be free of excess play such that external forces can be transmitted through the whole region of wood. Actually that has been recognized by experiments. Elastic analysis satisfactorily explains how a concentrated force is transmitted into an orthotropic wood plate with epoxy-glued bolt joint. But it does not cover those cases in which the distances between free ends and bolts are not quite long. This paper discusses the finite element analyses of stresses for orthotropic woods with the epoxy-glued bolt joints.
