Various data transmission systems used in loop computer networks having a relatively large number of stations in the loop are compared. The line utilization factor and information transmission rate are used as evaluation criteria. The effectiveness of these criteria is substantiated by computer simulations. The system considered protects the packets already in the transmission line and abandons only the packets which collide with others upon entering the line. The effectiveness of such system is substantiated quantitatively. It is shown that a packet transmission system with slots is more effective than one without slots. Under identical conditions, bilateral transmission is shown to be superior to unilateral transmission.
