Bed-material-load has been classified into bed-load and suspended-load. The mechanism of a bed-load transportation is mainly governed by the impingement of a moving particle on the bed particle. Suspended-load is influenced by a fluctuating velocity of water flow, and its motion is random and complicated. The motion of a bed-material-load is treated as a unique stochastic process and each transportation mechanism is made clear in detail. Both types of motion in an equilibrium state are analyzed by using the simulation technique, which is based on the dynamic equations of motion. The results of simulation are verified by the experimental results. As a result, the transportation mechanism of the sediment can be made clear, and the rate of sediment movement can be estimated accurately. In addition to this, the characteristics of these motions, which have been known only empirically, are explained reasonably.
