Hydraulic fracturing phenomena in cohesive soil

    The large triaxial fracturing apparatus is used for the hydraulic fracturing experiment. The specimen is artificial soil by the kaolin clay, bentonite, gypsum and water to be composed. The pressurization liquid in the borehole is water, bentonite slurry and CMC solution. The experimental result indicated, the effect of the property of pressurization liquid, and two-layer-concentric cylindrical specimen on the hydraulic fracturing pressure are clarified. Especially, in case of the two-layer-concentric cylinder, in which the strength of the internal layer is small, the hydraulic fracturing pressure rapidly drops while the layer radius ratio increases. When the layer radius ratio is large than 0.5, the hydraulic fracturing pressure almost becomes constant and equals the hydraulic fracturing pressure of internal layer.
