抄録

An attempt was made to measure the sound speed in objects by extracting the time delay of the system. A pair of miniprobe transducers was fabricated at the tips of a variable-path caliper to fix and measure the path length with 0.05-mm accuracy. Methods to measure the speed of sound by extracting the time delay of the system are proposed. Sound speeds in some materials have been measured using the proposed methods as a preliminary study to the measurement of sound speed in biological tissues. The data verified the feasibility of the methods.
