N2 - A modeling and process design of the HIDiC was developed. The model of HIDiC with structured packing was developed by rate-based model using Maxwell-Stefan equations. The HIDiC models were developed by the process simulator "gPROMS". A benzene-toluene system was considered. Predicted simulation results showed a good agreement with observed data. The bench HIDiC showed about 40% reduction of energy consumption than the conventional distillation column. The effect of process design in the HIDiC is also presented. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 2006 AIChE National Meeting (San Francisco, CA 11/12-17/2006).
