Oil-in-water droplet formation in hydrophobic PDMS device using three-dimensional protruded taper channel

抄録

We developed an oil-in-water droplet formation method in a 3D stacked PDMS device without hydrophilic treatment using structural feature only. Three-dimensional junction shape of oil-water phase injection channels suppressed contact and spreading of oil on the wall surface which was critical problem of droplet formation for unfavourable wetting condition. Dimension of droplets formed under various flow conditions was provided and effects of each channel's shape on the droplet formation results were evaluated. The proposed structure can be used as a droplet generator and element for droplet based researches employing various materials.
