The isopropyl alcohol dehydration process in a commercial-scale batch distillation column was studied. The specification of the water contents in the refining isopropyl alcohol was < 0.1 w t%. In the dehydration process, hexane was used as an entrainer for the azeotropic distillation. The energy consumption of the dehydration process was > 80% of total quantity. The simulation model using an Aspen Batch Distillation proved useful in studies on optimizing the dehydration process in the commercial-scale column. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 7th European Congress of Chemical Engineering-7 and 19th International Congress of Chemical and Process Engineering CHISA 2010 (Prague, Czech Republic 8/28/2010-9/1/2010).
