Phase changes during aging have been studied by X-ray diffractometry and metallographic techniques. The alloys, when cooled from a high-temperature phase and then aged at a moderate temperature, show two phase changes. The changes are explained in terms of free energy curves as a function of Pb concentration for both fcc and fct phases. The characteristic features are also discussed on the basis of the Landau theory applicable to martensitic transformations.
