Lithium-ion batteries for automotive use require not only downsizing but also compatibility between energy density and power density. To satisfy these requirements, a phenomenological understanding of the conditions occurring in a battery during operation is essential. Understanding the behavior of ion transport during charging and discharging is an especially key factor for optimal battery design. This paper presents the results of X-ray in-situ visualization and in-situ electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). X-ray analysis showed the ion concentration change at the electrodes and EIS revealed the resistance change. The results agreed well quantitatively and were validated by a numerical method.
