Pre-cooling operation aiming for demand response adaptation in house

Electric load management systems such as Demand Response (DR) are necessary to introduce more renewable energy in Japan. This study focused on the pre-cooling operations used to reduce the electric load in high DR times during summer days. This study aimed to evaluate (1) the effect of electric demand shift by “pre-cooling” and (2) the effect of pre-cooling on residents' comfort, health, and behavior. This paper describes the results of the subject experiment. The average thermal comfort of the subjects who changed their behavior according to pre-cooling increased substantially during the DR period. Pre-cooling behavior LF/HF, which represents the stress level, was significantly lowered.
